The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score for Friday was a 53-53-151 draw. The TSX Venture Exchange gained four points to 775 while polished diamond prices were flat. Matt Manson's Stornoway Diamond Corp. (SWY) fell three cents to 78 cents on 1.37 million shares. The company, which is ramping up production at its Renard mine in Northern Quebec, has no recent news.
Jim Gowans's Dominion Diamond Corp. (DDC), down 31 cents to $16.85 on 361,000 shares, is feeling nostalgic about some old kimberlite discoveries made in the mid-1990s at Diavik. The company and its majority co-venturer, Rio Tinto PLC, are drilling three of the many pipes that turned up nearly 25 years ago but were shelved and quickly forgotten once they discovered the four rich pipes that became the Diavik mine. Dominion has been having success with new looks at old kimberlites at Ekati over the past few years, which may have prompted Rio Tinto to try the same at Diavik. Unfortunately, the pickings are slimmer there.
