West Texas Intermediate crude for March delivery added 56 cents to $53.69 on the New York Merc, while Brent for March added 55 cents to $61.64 (all figures in this para U.S.). Western Canadian Select traded at a discount of $9.35 to WTI, up from a discount of $10. Natural gas for February added eight cents to $3.18. The TSX energy index added a fraction to close at 148.53.

Enerplus Corp. (ERF) lost seven cents to $11.49 on 3.29 million shares, after releasing an operational update. It also finally released its 2019 guidance, which investors have been expecting for about a month, given that president and chief executive officer Ian Dundas previously told them to expect it "likely around the end of the year [2018]." The company patted itself on the back for achieving the high end of its fourth quarter and full-year 2018 production guidance. In fact, full-year 2018 production was slightly above guidance, averaging 93,200 barrels of oil equivalent a day, compared with the targeted range of 92,500 to 93,000. Fourth quarter production reached 97,800 barrels a day. Notably, liquids production in the fourth quarter averaged 54,400 barrels a day, easily within the targeted range of 53,500 to 54,500 barrels a day.
