New York spot gold dipped $2.40 to $1,282.30 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange slipped 0.38 point to 592.70 while the TSX Gold Index added 0.55 point to 175.96.
Canadian gold miners moved little today for the most part, but some traded briskly nevertheless. Kinross Gold Corp. (K) dropped one cent to $4.18 on 5.99 million shares and Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX) closed unchanged at $15.74 on 4.46 million shares. Alacer Gold Corp. (ASR) was strong today. It added 15 cents to $2.91 on 2.72 million shares. Detour Gold Corp. (DGC), which said late Tuesday that it could produce up to 605,000 ounces of gold this year, adding 21 cents to $12.36 on 1.41 million shares.
Eric Fier and Yannis Tsitos's Goldsource Mines Inc. (GXS) leapt 5.5 cents to 13 cents on 14.45 million shares on word that the company has received assays of up to 6.52 grams of gold per tonne over a true width of 40 metres from one of two holes drilled at the Salbora target on the Eagle Mountain project in Guyana. The mineralized zone, which began at surface, included an interval that averaged 19.33 grams per tonne over a 5.6-metre true width. The other hole yielded 2.82 grams per tonne over a 17-metre true width, which also began at surface.
