New York spot gold slid $9.70 to $1,284.20 on Friday. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 8.95 points to 587.44 but the TSX Gold Index fell 3.37 points to 183.35. Most Canadian gold miners lost ground today. Iamgold Corp. (IMG) dropped 18 cents to $5.08 on 4.67 million shares while recently consolidated (5:1) Eldorado Gold Corp. (ELD) slid 28 cents to $4.38 on 999,000 shares. Neither company has had any news this year. Premier Gold Mines Ltd. (PG) bucked the trend, gaining two cents to $1.83 on 1.33 million shares.
Frank Giustra and Neil Woodyer's Leagold Mining Corp. (LMC) lost four cents to $1.91 on 222,000 shares on word that it produced 302,550 ounces of gold in 2018, most of it from the Los Filos mine in Mexico. The rest of the gold came from the RDM, Fazenda and Pilar mines in Brazil that the company acquired earlier last year. The production tally came in at the higher end of the company's revised 2018 guidance, which had predicted between 295,000 and 305,000 ounces of gold. It also achieved a common promoters' goal -- setting guidance high enough that it encourages investment, but not so high that it can disappoint the market when the ounces are finally tallied.
