New York spot gold rose $2.10 to $1,284.20 on the first day of trading in 2019. The TSX Venture Exchange gained 13.80 points to 571.00 but the TSX Gold Index fell 1.53 points to 185.27. New Gold Inc. (NGD) was nevertheless strong for a change. It added five cents to $1.10 on 3.76 million shares.
Rodrigo Barbosa and Ryan Goodman's Aura Minerals Inc. (ORA), unchanged at $1.90 on 16,000 shares, has consolidated its stock 1:10. For those long-term shareholders who now wish they had fallen into that group, Mr. Goodman and Mr. Barbosa, president and chief executive officer, assured them that they would be compensated even if they wound up holding less than one full share as a result of the consolidation.
