New York spot gold fell $6.70 to $1,242.30 on Wednesday. The TSX Venture Exchange fell 1.28 points to 541.87 while the TSX Gold Index dropped 10.28 points to 172.54. Most Canadian gold miners took a hit today. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) dropped $2.75 to $51.60 on 2.36 million shares and Yamana Gold Inc. (YRI) slid 29 cents to $2.90 on 8.91 million shares. Alio Gold Inc. (ALO) was a bright spot. It added two cents to 92 cents on 222,000 shares.
Donald McInnes and Steve Robertson's Sun Metals Corp. (SUNM), down one-half cent to 23 cents on 1.01 million shares, has received assays of up to 4.17 grams of gold and 34.5 grams of silver per tonne, accompanied by 1.6 per cent zinc and 0.09 per cent copper, over 4.6 metres from several new holes completed at its Stardust project in north-central British Columbia. A second hole yielded 5.05 grams of gold and 55.3 grams of silver per tonne, plus 5.23 per cent zinc and 0.1 per cent copper, over 3.1 metres. A third managed just 0.93 gram of gold and 29.1 grams of silver per tonne over 5.5 metres, but it also averaged 1.72 per cent copper.
