The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was a weak 64-83-153 as the TSX Venture Exchange slipped six points to 586 while polished diamond prices dipped 0.1 per cent. Dermot Desmond's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD), which set another nine-year low of $1 yesterday, kept its chin above that mark today despite the market's decline, adding one cent to $1.01 on 95,000 shares.
Anthony Cohen's Plato Gold Corp. (PGC), unchanged at 2.5 cents on 20,000 shares, has an option to acquire a 100-per-cent interest in the Good Hope niobium prospect at Killala Lake, near Marathon in Northern Ontario, from three local prospectors, led by Rudolf Wahl. Mr. Wahl has been working the area for many years. In the mid-2000s, he discovered a diamondiferous dike on the property and recovered 0.23 carat of macrodiamonds from a 1.2-tonne batch of rock, enough to tout the Killala Lake area a diamond district and sign John Ryder's now defunct Dianor Resources Inc. to an option deal.
