The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Friday was a pleasant 94-44-162 as the TSX Venture Exchange rose eight points to 589 but polished diamond prices slid 0.25 per cent and are now off about 4 per cent over the past year. Today it was the turn of Dermot Desmond's Mountain Province Diamonds Inc. (MPVD) to set a new low among Canada's diamond miners. It sagged to $1.03 in intraday trading, ending the day down two cents to $1.04 on 214,000 shares.
Ellen Clements's New Nadina Explorations Ltd. (NNA), up one cent to eight cents on 75,000 shares, is going through another change, one that will see the Jewitt clan give up control. They took control of the company last September, when Ms. Clements, president and chief executive officer since her husband died in the mid-2000s, abruptly resigned, citing personal reasons. (Personal reasons were also cited for the concurrent departures of director David Huck and chief financial officer, Arlene Ashton.) They were replaced by John Jewitt as president and CEO, and Tony Jewitt as CFO, with both fellows joining the company's board.
