The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was a so-so 52-83-159 as the TSX Venture Exchange fell one point to 591 and polished diamond prices rose 0.1 per cent. Patrick Power's Arctic Star Exploration Corp. (ADD) continues to sag, dropping one-half cent to four cents on 1.47 million shares today. The stock got above 37 cents two years ago when it acquired the Timantti diamond project in Finland, but investor interest in the project has evaporated despite the company's discovery of diamondiferous kimberlites.
Ken MacNeill and George Read's Star Diamond Corp. (DIAM) closed unchanged at 21 cents on 26,000 shares. The low volume and flat price reflects the cone of silence over the company's Star-Orion South diamond project in the Fort a la Corne district of central Saskatchewan. Star's co-venturer, Rio Tinto PLC, says that all is going well with its big bulk sampling program at the Star pipe, one of two kimberlites that Rio Tinto and its partner eventually hope to mine.
