ASHBURN, Va. -- (Business Wire)
Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Paul Capasso, vice president of strategic
programs at Telos Corporation, was selected into the Air Force Command,
Control, Communications and Computers Association (AFC4A) Cyberspace
Operations and Support Hall of Fame, located at Scott Air Force Base,
Illinois.
Maj. Gen. Capasso was nominated for the honor by retired Air Force
Colonel David Kovach, himself a Hall of Fame honoree. “Game-changing
generational leaders are rare, but Maj. Gen. Paul Capasso is clearly one
of those rarities,” said Col. Kovach, vice president of strategic
capture at Telos. “His strategic and tactical mission contributions, as
wells as his career record of mentorship to those junior to him has left
a lasting impression in the DNA of the Air Force’s Cyberspace force.”
“General Capasso’s work, both personally and professionally, have shown
a true contribution to the Air Force and all it stands for,” said Telos
CEO and Chairman John B. Wood. “I consider it a privilege to work with
him at Telos, and to learn from his vast experience in the defense
community.”
Maj. Gen. Capasso retired from the Air Force in September 2011 after
more than 33 years of service in the military. At the time of his
retirement, he was Director of Cyberspace Operations. Prior to that, he
commanded Air Force units at every level – detachment, squadron, group
and wing. He served three times in Air Force Major Command staff
leadership roles, as well as leading major staff functions in three Air
Staff assignments.
Since his retirement, Maj. Gen. Capasso has continued to make
significant contributions to the Air Force and the Department of Defense
in a variety of ways. He has been a key member of the AFCEA
International Small Business Committee since 2015, and became the AFCEA
District of Columbia Chapter’s Vice President for Strategic Initiatives
in 2017.
Maj. Gen. Capasso made a variety of contributions to innovation,
creativity and technology in the Air Force throughout his career. These
contributions include being the first Chief Information Officer (CIO)
and Director of C4 (command, control, communications and cyber) and
standing up all C4 systems at the USAFRICOM headquarters at Kelley
Barracks, Stuttgart, GE during its inception. In addition, he planned
and built the first command Network Operations and Security Center in
the Air Education and Training Command (AETC), joining other Air Force
major commands in establishing global network command and control, and
setting the stage for today’s Air Force Enterprise Network. Maj. Gen.
Capasso is a Harvard University National Defense Fellow and decorated
with the Distinguished Service Medal, as well as nine other prestigious
awards throughout his career. He is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force
Academy and holds a degree in behavioral science.
The Air Force Communications and Information Hall of Fame, now known as
the Cyberspace Operations and Support Hall of Fame, was established by
the Secretary of the Air Force Chief Information Officer / A6 in 1999 to
honor those individuals who made significant contributions to the Air
Force and the communications career field. Each year new members are
inducted into the Hall of Fame, men and women who are recognized as
“visionaries who guided the Air Force toward a technological and
information-enabled future. Their dedication, vision, patriotism, and
honor established a proud legacy on which we continue to build today’s
information superiority.”
The induction ceremony honoring the 2018 class of AFC4A Hall of Fame
inductees will be held on May 10, 2018.
