LAWSUIT FILED AGAINST NOVAGOLD AND CERTAIN OF ITS OFFICERS

NovaGold Resources Inc. and certain of its officers have been named as defendants in a purported securities class-action lawsuit filed on Aug. 7, 2008, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. The complaint alleges, among other things, that the defendants failed to disclose materially adverse facts about the company's operations and prospects in various public statements and filings from Oct. 25, 2006, through Nov. 23, 2007. The company believes that it has substantial and meritorious legal and factual defences, which the company intends to pursue vigorously.
