Kayne Anderson Energy Total Return Fund, Inc. (the “Fund”) (NYSE:KYE) announced today its quarterly distribution of $0.48 per share for the period June 1, 2009 to August 31, 2009 and stated that it expects to maintain its quarterly distribution at $0.48 per share for the remainder of fiscal year 2009.

The distribution for the quarter ended August 31, 2009 will be payable on October 9, 2009 to common stockholders of record on October 5, 2009, with an ex-dividend date of October 1, 2009. It is anticipated that greater than 50% of this distribution will be treated as a return of capital for tax purposes. The final determination of such amount will be made in early 2010 when the Fund can determine its earnings and profits. The final tax status of the distribution may differ substantially from this preliminary information.
