MARATHON GOLD ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF PAOLO TOSCANO AS VICE PRESIDENT, PROJECTS

Marathon Gold Corp. has appointed Paolo Toscano as vice-president, projects, effective Sept. 1, 2020.

Mr. Toscano is a professional engineer with over 25 years of experience in project management, process engineering, and mine design and operations. Since March, 2016, Mr. Toscano has been employed by Alamos Gold Inc. as director of projects. In this capacity he has had overall responsibility for the development of the Lynn Lake gold project in Manitoba, in addition to providing project-level management and engineering support to the Island gold mine and the Young-Davidson gold mine, both in Ontario. Between 2014 and 2016, Mr. Toscano was employed by Ausenco Engineering as director, technical solutions, responsible for management of the Toronto-based Ausenco engineering team and office. Between 2012 and 2014 he served as director, engineering, for Rainy River Resources Ltd. and then subsequently New Gold Inc., with responsibility for plant site and process engineering at the Rainy River gold project in Fort Frances, Ont. Between 2005 and 2012, Mr. Toscano was employed by SNC Lavalin Inc. in Toronto, as director, process, during which time he was involved in multiple Canadian and international mining projects across a range of commodities.

Mr. Toscano holds a master of applied science (material sciences) from the University of Toronto (2001) and a bachelor of engineering (metallurgy) from McGill University (1995). He is a registered professional engineer in Ontario.

Matt Manson, president and chief executive officer, commented: "We are very happy to welcome Paolo Toscano to our project development team at Marathon. As VP, projects, Paolo will be responsible for completion of the upcoming feasibility study at the Valentine gold project in central Newfoundland and leading the execution team that will develop the project through to production. Paolo will work under the overall direction of our recently appointed COO, Tim Williams, and brings to Marathon a broad range of project management and process engineering experiences in comparable Canadian gold mining projects, complimenting Tim's expertise in large-scale open-pit mining operations and geotechnical engineering. Tim and Paolo's appointments represent Marathon's commitment to proceed expeditiously with the development of the Valentine gold project through environmental assessment, feasibility study and project financing, with a view to a potential construction decision by late 2021."
