The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, Aug. 1, edition that TransAlta posted second quarter revenue of $437-million versus $497-million a year ago. The Globe's Brenda Bouw writes that analysts were expecting revenue of $409-million.
Its net loss attributable to common shareholders for the three months ended June 30 was $60-million compared with nil in the same period in the prior year. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of $217-million compared with $215-million in the same period of 2019.
Free cash flow, which the company said is one of its key financial metrics, totalled $91-million versus $49-million a year ago. The Globe reported on May 14 that Industrial Alliance Securities analyst Naji Baydoun had cut TransAlta to "hold" from "buy," when it could be had for $7.75. Mr. Baydoun recommended waiting for a better entry point. The Globe reported on July 8 that ATB Capital Markets analyst Nate Heywood began coverage on energy infrastructure company TransAlta with an "outperform" rating and $11 share target. The shares could then be had for $8.25.
