The Successful Investor, in the April, 2020, issue, refreshes its buy of Leon's Furniture Ltd., recently $15. This is the Investor's first time directly recommending the stock, but its sister publication, Power Growth Investor, said buy 33 times from July, 1999, to March, 2020, at prices ranging from $9.80 to $51 (the stock split 4 for 1 on June 27, 2007). Assuming a $1,000 investment for each of the 33 buys, the $33,000 position is now worth $49,425. Leon's owns 86 furniture stores across Canada. It also owns The Brick, which has an additional 218 locations. Excluding unusual items, Leon's earned 52 cents a share in the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2019, up from 47 cents a share in the same period a year earlier. Sales rose to a record $621.4-million from $601.7-million. The gains came from increased in-store sales, as well as higher e-commerce sales following the company's recent move to the more efficient Shopify platform. Leon's now trades at an attractive 11.1 times its projected 2020 earnings of $1.35 a share. Its 16-cent quarterly dividend, which has just been raised from 14 cents, represents a generous yield of 4.3 per cent. Buy.
