The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, Dec. 7, edition that CanWel Building Materials Group ($5.55) was trading at $4.52 on Nov. 1 and has rallied since then thanks in part to an upbeat outlook from the company when it released third quarter results last month. The Globe's guest columnist Ted Dixon writes in the Who Is Buying and Selling column that in the meantime, insiders have been buying even as the stock rallies and makes new 52-week highs. From Nov. 15 to Nov. 25, director Sam Fleiser bought 39,100 common shares at an average price of $5.30. Earlier, on Sept. 5, board chairman and chief executive officer Amar Doman bought 10,000 common shares at $4.47. The Globe reported on March 2 that Raymond James analyst Steve Hansen cut his rating on CanWel to "market perform" from "outperform." The shares were then worth $4.83. The Globe reported on Nov. 12 that Mr. Hansen upgraded CanWel to "outperform," when it was worth $4.90. Mr. Hansen said given CanWel's improving backdrop and management proven abilities, "we feel comfortable increasing our rating." The Globe reported on Dec. 4 that Mr. Hansen was maintaining CanWel at "outperform," but hiking his share target to $6 from $5.50. It was then worth $5.54.
