The Globe and Mail reports in its Monday, Jan. 6, edition that the arrival of legal weed edibles, vapes and other products in Ontario is unlikely to meet the government's stated goal of cutting into the black market. A Canadian Press dispatch to The Globe reports that the Ontario Cannabis Store says a raft of new products are slated to start appearing in legal pot shops on Monday and be available for on-line purchase 10 days later. Weed watchers say a combination of federal health regulations and Ontario's own record on product prices may fail to make the legal wares as enticing as alternatives still readily available through illicit channels. Edibles and comparable cannabis products became legal across the country in October, marking the second wave of the federal government's legalization scheme launched the year before, but Monday will mark the first time such products are available for government-sanctioned purchase in Ontario. The OCS said 59 new products will hit store shelves on Monday and be available on-line effective Jan. 16. The OCS expects the number to rise to 100 as new products receive regulatory approval in the next few months. The OCS expects supplies will be tight for the first few weeks.
