New York spot gold rose $13.30 to $1,957.30 on Tuesday. The TSX-V fell 1.32 points to 707.79 while the TSX gold index lost 2.10 points to 401.47. Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. (AEM) edged higher nevertheless, crossing the $100 threshold for the first time as it added $1.41 to $100.46 on 1.04 million shares. Centerra Gold Inc. (CG) went the other way, dropping 44 cents to $16.20 on 1.52 million shares.
Cal Everett's Liberty Gold Corp. (LGD) leapt to an intraday high of $2.40, ending the day up 11 cents to $2.23 on 1.72 million shares on word that it has drilled a 96-metre interval averaging 1.44 grams of gold per tonne from new holes into the D-3 zone at its Black Pine oxide gold project in southern Idaho. The hit included a 32-metre interval averaging 1.95 grams per tonne and a second interval that averaged 1.86 grams per tonne over 29 metres. The two intervals were separated by just 3.1 metres of low-grade rock.
