The diamond and specialty minerals stocks box score on Thursday was a positive 104-78-118 as the TSX Venture Exchange rebounded 15 points to 741. Rough diamond prices continued their slow, almost painful recovery since the 12-per-cent COVID crash in late March, says Paul Zimnisky and his global rough diamond price index. Prices rose another 0.2 per cent last week, putting them up about 3.5 per cent since the early April low.

Lukas Lundin and Eira Thomas's Lucara Diamond Corp. (LUC) rose one cent to 57 cents on 439,000 shares. The company recorded a $14-million (U.S.) loss in its second quarter -- an unthinkable result just a few years ago -- but Lucara nevertheless is staring down the COVID-19 pandemic more effectively than most of its rivals, thanks in no small part to its enviable balance sheet and its ability to sell at least a smattering of diamonds despite the lockdowns that shuttered most of the major rough diamond sales centres.
