The critical and specialty minerals box score for Tuesday was a dreary 54-126-130 as the TSX Venture Exchange lost 14 points to 933. Kerem Usenmez's Volta Metals Ltd. (VLTA) was unchanged at 17.5 cents on 488,000 shares Monday following a flurry of news about its Springer rare earth elements (REE) project, near Sturgeon Falls in Northern Ontario. The second blast was a toned-down version of the first tome of good cheer, to which the regulators apparently offered a quibble or two.

The assays were highlighted by a 688-metre hit that began near surface and which averaged 0.81 per cent total rare earth oxides and 68.13 grams of gallium oxide per tonne. A 210-metre midsection of that zone graded 1.01 per cent total rare earth oxides and 79.02 grams of gallium oxide per tonne. The hit was sufficient that Volta Metals applauded the hole as having returned "one of the longest mineralized intervals ever reported at a North American REE project, with grades that rank among the continent's best" -- prose that survived scrutiny.
