The Financial Post reports in its Tuesday edition the easy part of the special meeting of Selwyn Resources held in Vancouver on Monday, the sale of the company's 50-per-cent stake in the Selwyn joint venture to its Chinese partner, is over. The Post's Barry Critchley, writing in Off the Record, says the difficult parts -- the election of directors and whether to use the $50-million in gross proceeds from the asset sale to develop another mine or to pay a dividend to shareholders -- have been put on hold. Selwyn removed those two matters from the agenda at the last minute. Thanks to the action of a group of dissidents led by Samara Capital (which has a stake of less than 2 per cent), they were supposed to be on the agenda for the meeting. The two topics will come under scrutiny at an upcoming special meeting. On both those matters, there is a large difference of opinion. On both matters, Mr. Critchley figures the momentum is with shareholders. At one end is a group of shareholders, including the largest, Denver-based Resource Capital Fund IV (which has a 17.1-per-cent stake), that wants the proceeds to be returned to the equity owners. At the other end is the company, which wants to develop the operation.
