SIGMA LITHIUM WINS IN STATE COURT OF MINAS GERAIS; OVERTURN OF UNWARRANTED LOCAL JUDGE DECISION

A court of appeal judge in the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais state overturned a local lower court decision that included the potential for a legal collateral of $10-million (U.S.), as detailed in Sigma Lithium Corp.'s announcement of May 18, 2026.

Highlights

  • A court of appeal judge in the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais state overturned a local lower court decision that included the potential for a legal collateral of $10-million (U.S.).
  • The ruling was based on robust quantitative evidence presented by Sigma Lithium: one year of environmental data collected by third parties demonstrating the company's record -- low levels of dust, vibrations, noise, measured by independent experts in four neighbouring communities -- in addition to other legal issues.
  • The data-based defence presented by the company debunked the baseless claims made by local prosecution and was accepted by the state court judge.

The Court of Justice asked the company to fund the engagement of an independent technical advisory firm to monitor the impacts of Sigma Lithium operations on the residents of the local municipalities of Aracuai and Itinga. The company welcomed the requirement of the impact assessment study as an excellent opportunity to establish the facts of the matter through an independent evaluation.

Sigma Lithium's legal counsel highlighted the discrepancy between the data presented by the prosecution and the evidence submitted by the company in its defence. On June 2, Sigma Lithium publicly disclosed 12 months of environmental monitoring data, independently collected and verified by external experts through May, 2026, demonstrating the company's environmental performance and record: low levels of dust, vibrations, noise, monitored in four neighbouring communities.

  • Dust: Sigma Lithium operates 560-per-cent better than recommended standards for total suspended particles, 350-per-cent better for particles of below 2.5 micrometres.
  • Noise: Ninety-five measurement campaigns conducted during night and day demonstrated compliance with Brazilian established standards.
  • Vibrations: The level of vibrations measured in terms of velocity measured in millimetres per second against the frequency measured in Hertz was extremely low, barely registering on the seismograph scale, when set against the recommended limits.
