The Financial Post reports in its Saturday edition the United States, Italy, Spain, France, Bulgaria, India and Greece are all countries in which privately held Silver Ridge Power Inc. has operations. The Post's Barry Critchley, writing in Off the Record, says Silver Ridge plans to raise about $175-million by way of an initial public offering from Canadian investors.
As an independent power producer, Silver Ridge will join a growing band of such listed companies. Others in the space include
Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP. Based in Bermuda, this company is focused on renewable power projects, largely hydroelectric, which in total have an installed capacity of 5,800 megawatts. It has operations in Canada, the U.S. and Brazil.
Then there is Innergex, which operates 22 run-of-river power plants, five wind farms and one solar farm for a total net installed capacity of 577 MW. The solar farm is in Ontario and has been in business since 1990, went public in June, 1993, as an income fund and has operations in Canada and the U.S. In December, 2007, it raised $115-million in the initial public offering for its unit, Innergex Renewable Energy. Three years ago it merged with Innergex Power Income Fund.
