Globe says Hudbay Minerals worth consideration

2026-06-09 09:10 ET - In the News

The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday edition that after years of trading in a range of $5 (Canadian) to $12 (Canadian), Hudbay Minerals started a strong upward trend in early 2025. The Globe's regular guest columnist Gordon Pape writes that first quarter results showed record revenue of $757.3-million (U.S.). Consolidated copper and gold production was 27,929 tonnes and 61,700 ounces, in line with expectations. The stock does not pay a dividend. Hudbay operates high-quality, long-life mines in stable, mining-friendly areas, including the Constancia mine in Peru, the Copper Mountain mine in British Columbia, and the Lalor mine in Manitoba, making it Canada's third-largest copper producer. Mining is notoriously a high-risk business. Among the factors influencing share values are metals prices, exploration and production costs, and the overall state of the stock market. In this case, the risk is compounded by the fact the company is trading near its all-time high. As long as metals continue to be in short supply and high demand, Hudbay stock should continue to flourish. Aggressive investors should buy the dip. The Globe reported on Feb. 25 that Desjardins rate Hudbay "buy" when it was worth $37.90 (Canadian).
