U.S. authorities have arrested Caroline Winsor (also known as Caroline Danforth), the Calgary woman wanted on broker bribery charges, after finding her in Spain. She made an initial appearance before a Pennsylvania judge on Friday, June 27. The judge ordered her detained, at least temporarily, until a full hearing takes place to decide if she can be released before her trial.

Prosecutors claim that Ms. Winsor, 66, and another Canadian, Richard Walchuk, paid a kickback to have corrupt brokers buy shares of two pink sheets listings, Viosolar Inc. and FACT Corp. The pair allegedly agreed to pay the bribe to have the brokers buy stock using the accounts of retail customers. Unfortunately for Ms. Winsor and Mr. Walchuk, the person they were dealing with was secretly co-operating with the FBI.

Although prosecutors said little about Ms. Winsor's whereabouts when they unsealed the case in May, it turns out they had a good idea where she was. Just before the U.S. announced the charges, authorities located her in Spain where, according to prosecutors, she was attempting to obtain a Spanish identification. Police there arrested her on the U.S. warrant. She did not contest her extradition, clearing her for a relatively quick removal to the U.S. She made her first court appearance in Pennsylvania on Friday, June 27.
