Savitr Peak Energy Master Fund Ltd. has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of British Columbia seeking an independent chairman for the contested annual general meeting of Western Wind Energy Corp. Savitr says that in light of "inflammatory and aggressive statements" by Western Wind, there is a reasonable chance the meeting will not be conducted fairly. It asks that the courts appoint Gordon Chambers, a Vancouver securities lawyer, to run the meeting.

The petition comes amidst a vigorous dissident battle in which Savitr, a San Francisco investment manager that holds 4.4 per cent of Western Wind, is proposing to replace the company's board. It says that present management, headed by Vancouver promoter Jeff Ciachurski, has a history of failed promises and poor financial stewardship. (Western Wind, which recently put itself up for sale, says the dissidents are not properly equipped to represent the company to potential buyers.)
