Vulcan Minerals forms technical advisory committee

2016-12-19 12:03 ET - News Release

Mr. Patrick Laracy reports

VULCAN MINERALS INC. - APPOINTS TECHNICAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Vulcan Minerals Inc. has created a technical advisory committee whose purpose is to provide the board of directors and management with advice on issues relevant to the company's activities. As the company increases its mineral exploration and development focus, it requires input from a variety of sources and networks of people. The company is pleased to appoint Sean O'Brien, PGeo, and Bob Kelly, PGeo, to the technical advisory committee.

Mr. O'Brien is a former senior geologist at the Geological Survey of Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), with over 40 years of geoscience experience. From 2006 to 2016, he was responsible for the government's targeted and strategic attraction initiatives to capture exploration and mining sector investment from worldwide sources. This work raised the profile of NL, and the NL mining and exploration sector in emerging and domestic markets, fostered important strategic relationships with public and private sector mining interests and governments in the Asia-Pacific region, notably China, and helped facilitate multimillion-dollar investment from these regions. Prior to 2006, much of his career focused on systematic geological mapping, mineral deposit studies and related geoscience research in the Appalachian geology of eastern North America, providing industry with technical information and mentoring, primarily related to gold and copper exploration. He holds a MSc (geology) from Memorial University and is principal of Far-Eastern Geo-Consult. He has been the recipient of numerous professional and service awards throughout his career. Mr. O'Brien will be particularly helpful to the company both from a project acquisition and marketing perspective.

Mr. Kelly, PGeo, has over 39 years of experience in the mining industry. He started as an exploration geologist in Western Canada and subsequently spent 21 years in various senior management roles at the Iron Ore Company of Canada's mining operation in Western Labrador, including the position of mine manager. He was construction manager for Inco's Voisey's Bay Nickel (VBNC) demonstration plant and its commercial nickel processing plant in Newfoundland. He was also principal liaison with government on all aspects of the industrial and employment benefits agreement with prime responsibility to administer the agreement on behalf of VBNC in collaboration with the government's representative. He recently retired from Teck Resources Ltd. in the role of vice-president of health and safety at Teck's Vancouver headquarters, a position he held since January, 2013. He joined Teck in 2007 and served as the general manager of Duck Pond (copper-zinc) mining operations in central Newfoundland. He is a graduate from Memorial University of Newfoundland, as well as the executive program at the University of Western Ontario's school of business. Mr. Kelly has also been the recipient of several professional and service awards throughout his career. Mr. Kelly will be particularly helpful to the company in regard to mining and development issues as the company pushes forward, through its subsidiary Red Moon Potash Inc., with the Captain Cook salt development.

Commenting on the appointments, the president of the company stated: "We are very pleased to attract such high-calibre individuals as Bob and Sean. They represent some of the leading personalities in our industry, and I look forward to working with them as we advance our various projects."

Vulcan is establishing itself as a leading explorer in Newfoundland and Labrador focused on project generation, value addition and partnering. Vulcan has several copper and gold projects available for option, and a competent team to operate all exploration activities.

We seek Safe Harbor.
