The Successful Investor, in the March, 2014, issue, says buy Torstar Corp., recently $5.12. The Investor said buy 26 times from May, 1997, to July, 2013, at prices ranging from $5.04 to $37 (the stock split 2 for 1 in July, 1998). Assuming a $1,000 investment for each of the 26 buys, the $26,000 position is now worth $9,912. In this brief update, the Investor says it has lowered Torstar's TSINetwork rating to "average" from "above average," to reflect all printing companies' struggles in the Internet age. Still, Torstar's cost-cutting measures are positioning it well to rebound with the economy. The Investor also likes the company's "one-of-a-kind trophy assets" such as The Toronto Star. Torstar could spin out its Harlequin romance novel business to create even more value, and its dividend seems safe for now. Torstar is ranked "best buy."
