Tahoe Resources Inc. has lost a jurisdictional ruling before the Supreme Court of Canada in the case the company faces from a group of Guatemalan mine protesters. The court has declined to hear the matter, which in effect is a victory for the protesters. Tahoe had sought to have the lawsuit dismissed on jurisdictional grounds.
The case revolves around events that occurred at Tahoe's Escobal mine in Guatemala. It centres on a 2013 protest that allegedly turned violent. The protesters claim that security personnel shot and injured them as they were approaching the mine. They say that they suffered serious injuries, and they are seeking to have the Canadian courts award them damages.
