Tahoe Resources Inc. has asked that the courts dismiss a lawsuit that a group of mine protesters from Guatemala filed against the company in the Supreme Court of British Columbia. It says that B.C. is not the appropriate venue for the case, which centres around injuries the group claims to have suffered at the company's Escobal mine in Guatemala. The proper jurisdiction is Guatemala, where the protesters live and where the alleged injuries occurred, Tahoe says.

Tahoe is responding to a notice of claim that the protesters filed against it at the Vancouver courthouse on June 18, 2014. They claimed that they suffered substantial injuries at the hands of security forces at Tahoe's Escobal mine during an April, 2013, protest. They said that they were there to peacefully protest the mine, but security personnel fired on them with shotguns and rubber bullets, inflicting wounds to their backs, faces, feet and legs. The group, which comprises six farmers and one student, is seeking damages for suffering and lost income, among other things.
