Stock Pickers Digest, in the July, 2016, issue, says hold Stantec Inc., recently $32.74. Stock Pickers said buy four times from April, 1999, to June, 2001, at prices ranging from $11 to $18.50. It said sell half in November, 2001, at $25. Assuming a $1,000 investment for each of the four buys, selling half at $25 would have yielded a profit of $1,475. The stock split 2 for 1 in May, 2006, and again in November, 2014. Stock Pickers said buy again in December, 2011, at $24.98 and in August, 2012, at $27.36. Assuming a $1,000 investment for each of those two buys, and including the remaining $2,000 investment after the November, 2001, half sale, the $4,000 position is now worth $23,441. Stantec's sales reached $628.8-million in the quarter ended March 31, 2016, up from $592.3-million a year earlier, thanks in part to acquisitions. The cost of integrating the acquisitions, however, helped drag earnings down to 33 cents a share from 40 cents a share. Stantec is continuing to pursue acquisitions and most recently bought MWH Global, which builds water infrastructure, for $795-million (U.S.) in May. Meanwhile, in April, Stantec raised its quarterly dividend to 11.25 cents from 10.5 cents, for a new yield of 1.4 per cent. Hold.
