SmartCool collecting data from two trailers

SMARTCOOL PROVIDES UPDATE OF TESTING FOR FUEL SAVINGS IN THE REFRIGERATED TRANSPORTATION SECTOR

SmartCool Systems Inc. has provided an update on the beta testing initiative announced on July 8, 2014, and updated on Aug. 13, 2014, with a Florida-based food distribution firm. The goal of this testing is to determine the impact of the SmartCool technology on compressor optimization and the amount of fuel being reduced due to the SmartCool technology.

As previously reported the SmartCool technology has shown on average a 20-per-cent reduction in compressor run time on the refrigerated trailer and the company is now validating the fuel reduction in gallons. As the compressor of a refrigerated trailer is driven by an independent diesel engine with its own fuel supply source, SmartCool has now installed calibration flow meters to measure the supply and return flow rates of the diesel throughout the system. This measurement is required to determine fuel consumption with and without SmartCool technology optimizing compressor efficiency.

Two identically loaded trailers have been sequestered from the fleet and the flow meters, temperature sensors, cabling and enclosures have been installed. Data are now being collected, which will determine the amount of fuel being consumed with SmartCool technology on and off. Preliminary data will be available in the next two weeks.

SmartCool is preparing a sales and marketing roll-out strategy during the testing phase that will allow dissemination of results to existing and new sales channels interested in this new market vertical for the SmartCool technology.

Refrigerated trailers burn an average of one gallon of diesel per hour to maintain temperature. Food distribution companies operate in a very competitive marketplace with paper thin margins. The potential for 20-per-cent savings in fuel consumption for the cooling engine would be a game changer for the industry. Discussions have commenced with a number of significant launch customers.
