The Successful Investor, in the July, 2015, issue, refreshes its buy of SNC-Lavalin Group Inc., recently $46. The Investor said buy 11 times from April, 2000, to April, 2015, at prices ranging from $12 to $56 (the stock split 3 for 1 in March, 2006). A $1,000 investment for each of the 11 buys is now worth $26,910. SNC's stock, which fell to $36.24 in March, 2015, after the RCMP laid bribery charges related to old Libyan construction deals, has since rallied to its current level of $46 as the company continues to win public works contracts in major Canadian cities. SNC is also benefiting from last year's $2.1-billion acquisition of Kentz Corp., a U.K. business that provides engineering and construction services to oil and gas companies. The acquisition helped take SNC's revenue to $2.3-billion in the quarter ended March 31, 2015, from $1.7-billion a year earlier. Earnings rose to $104.4-million from $94.6-million. SNC now trades at 19.2 times its likely 2015 earnings of $2.40 a share, which seems high, but is actually reasonable given its plan to sell its 16.77-per-cent interest in the 407 toll highway in Ontario. SNC will be able to use the proceeds to, for example, raise its dividend, which currently yields 2.2 per cent. Buy.
