The Investment Reporter, in its Jan. 29, 2016, issue, refreshes its buy of Shaw Communications Inc., recently $23.65. The Reporter said buy 22 times from Feb. 4, 1998, to Nov. 6, 2015, at prices ranging from $17.10 to $48.42 (the stock split 2 for 1 on Feb. 3, 2000, and on July 26, 2007). Assuming a $1,000 investment for each of the 22 buys, the $22,000 position is now worth $32,991. The Alberta-based telecommunications company has agreed to sell its media business to Corus Entertainment Inc. in exchange for $1.85-billion cash and 71 million Class B shares. Shaw can use this cash to pay for its acquisition of Wind Mobile. While it will lose revenue from selling its media sector, Shaw will be well positioned entering the wireless industry to complete against other telecom giants. Shaw currently pays a $1.19 dividend which yields an appealing 5 per cent. Buy for long-term share price gains and attractive dividends.
