The Globe and Mail reports in its Friday edition an internal review at the CBC has determined journalist Amanda Lang adhered to its journalistic standards in her coverage of RBC. The Globe's James Branshaw writes Ms. Lang, the broadcaster's senior business correspondent, faced public criticism after news stories suggested she had been in conflicts of interest in her reporting on the bank and her involvement in stories on temporary foreign workers. In response, the CBC commissioned a review led by Jack Nagler, director of journalistic public accountability and engagement, which included interviews with 17 staffers and analysis by Cormex Research. It "re-affirmed that all of CBC's journalism relating to the RBC Temporary Foreign Workers story met CBC's journalistic standards," Jennifer McGuire, general manager and editor-in-chief of CBC News, wrote in a memo to staff on Thursday. Ms. Lang's work came under fire after the media website Canadaland alleged she had tried to scuttle a story on RBC and foreign workers led by the CBC's Kathy Tomlinson, and pointed to Ms. Lang's relationship with an RBC board member. Ms. Lang was also criticized for paid speaking engagements at events RBC helped sponsor.
