The relationship between Petromin Resources Ltd. dissidents Tyrone Daum and Ivano DeCotiis appears to have broken down, with Mr. Daum suing Mr. DeCotiis in the Supreme Court of British Columbia. According to the lawsuit, Mr. DeCotiis assaulted Mr. Daum with a three-hole punch and misappropriated his money. Mr. DeCotiis denies the allegations.
The lawsuit comes over a year after the two men began a battle against Petromin in the courts and at its annual general meetings. They claimed that the company's board had misappropriated an interest in a Chinese venture that could be worth over $1-billion (U.S.). Petromin's board denied the accusations, and the matter remains the subject of a court case.
Resolving that matter may become a little more complicated now, with Mr. Daum's new allegations. In a notice of claim filed at the Vancouver courthouse on Feb. 3, 2017, Mr. Daum claims that he and Mr. DeCotiis had a business arrangement that went horribly awry. He says that the troubles go back to March, 2015, when he and Mr. DeCotiis bought shares in Petromin. Several months after making the investment, the two men determined that the company was a "stock scam."
