The Successful Investor, in the November, 2017, issue, says hold Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc., recently $24. The Investor said buy four times from February, 2010, to April, 2013, at prices ranging from $41 to $122 (the stock split 3 for 1 on Feb. 14, 2011). Assuming a $1,000 investment for each of the four buys, the $4,000 position is now worth $2,400. Potash Corp. operates five potash mines in Saskatchewan, which together account for one-fifth of the world's capacity. In the quarter ended June 30, 2017, the company earned 24 U.S. cents a share, up sharply from 14 U.S. cents a share a year earlier. Revenue edged up to $1.12-billion (U.S.) from $1.05-billion (U.S.). Meanwhile, Potash Corp. continues to work toward closing its planned merger with Agrium Inc., a fellow potash producer. The merger recently won Canadian regulatory approval but still needs the go-ahead from other countries. To win their approval, Potash Corp. may have to sell some of its investments in international potash producers. These investments contributed $51-million (U.S.) to Potash Corp.'s earnings in the most recent quarter and had a market value of $4.8-billion (U.S.) as of June 30, 2017. Potash Corp. remains a hold.
