Aly Nazerali continued testifying Friday afternoon at the defamation trial he is pursuing against the Deep Capture website, with defence lawyer Roger McConchie cross-examining him about a takeover bid from 2002. Mr. McConchie asked Mr. Nazerali to set out exactly when he learned about a non-binding $4 (U.S.) offer for Imagis Technologies Inc., a lively facial recognition promotion from the time. He also asked Mr. Nazerali about conversations with the company making the offer.
The testimony is part of a lawsuit Mr. Nazerali is pursuing against Deep Capture and others for a series of chapters that he claimed defamed him in 2011. Among other things, the chapters accused him of running a pump-and-dump of Imagis. They said that he took part in a false takeover offer from a Boston entity called Pembridge Group Ltd. (Mr. Nazerali did not quote those portions of the chapters in his lawsuit, but a second amended response to the suit contained them.)
