The Investment Reporter, in its July 4, 2014, issue, says sell MDC Partners Inc., recently $21.61, if you have it. The Reporter said buy on Sept. 6, 1994, at $2.75, and on July 24, 1997, at $9.50. It said sell on Oct. 16, 1997, at $9. Assuming a $1,000 investment for each buy, selling the $2,000 position at $9 would have yielded a profit of $2,023. The Reporter then said hold if you have it on Sept. 27, 2013, and on Feb. 21, 2014. MDC is now back as a sell, as it expects to lose 59 cents a share this year after losing $1.78 a share last year. Next year, the advertising company is projected earn $1 a share. Still, this works out to an excessive price-to-earnings ratio of 21.6 times. MDC's net debt of $679.7-million is 190.9 times its low cash flow of $3.56-million. The cash flow of a little over seven cents a share also gives it an unappealing price-to-cash-flow ratio of 300.4 times. Because it has a negative book value of $5.43 a share, the Reporter is unable to calculate MDC's net-debt-to-equity ratio. The dividend is also likely at risk. Sell.
