Stock Pickers Digest, in the October, 2016, issue, refreshes its buy of Leon's Furniture Ltd., recently $15.92. Stock Pickers said buy 27 times from July, 1999, to July, 2016, at prices ranging from $9.80 to $51 (the stock split 4 for 1 on June 27, 2007). Assuming a $1,000 investment for each of the 27 buys, the $27,000 position is now worth $46,693. Leon's has 79 stores under its banner across Canada, along with 218 stores under the banner of The Brick, which was acquired in 2013 for $700-million. Leon's took a risk in buying something as big as The Brick, but the decision is paying off, says Stock Pickers. In the quarter ended June 30, 2016, Leon's earned $17-million or 24 cents a share, up from $15-million or 21 cents a share a year earlier. Sales rose by 4.7 per cent to $516.2-million from $492.9-million. On a same-store basis, sales rose by 4.1 per cent. Leon's now trades at 15.2 times its likely 2016 earnings of $1.05 a share, and its dividend yields 2.5 per cent. Buy.
