The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday edition that Canadians increasingly back Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain pipeline but are far less supportive of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's decision to buy it. A Bloomberg dispatch to the Post reports that a recent Angus Reid Institute poll found Canadians are evenly split -- 37 per cent say Mr. Trudeau made the right decision, 37 per cent say the wrong decision and the rest were undecided. It is a stark difference from the popularity of the pipeline expansion itself: 57 per cent of Canadians support it while 26 per cent oppose. That gap has steadily widened in the firm's polling. The numbers signal Mr. Trudeau could pay a political price for his decision in May to buy the pipeline and its expansion project for $4.5-billion. The poll found that in Ontario and Quebec, provinces critical to the PM's re-election chances next year, more people think it was the wrong decision than the right one. There is a gender divide too -- 48 per cent of men say buying the pipeline was the right thing to do, versus just 26 per cent of women. Forty-two per cent say Ottawa has done a poor job handling the issue, compared with 39 per cent who said it did a good job.
