The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, Nov. 22, edition that Imperial Metals' $228-million Red Chris mine is facing one court case, so far. The Globe's Mark Hume writes that
Imperial Metals was
granted an injunction against
individuals blocking an access
road to the Red Chris copper-gold mine.
Imperial Metals had agreements
with both the Tahltan Central
Council and Iskut First Nation,
but a group called the Klabona
Keepers blocked access anyway.
Imperial Metals is still seeking
a long-term order against
the protesters. The TCC
says it will apply to participate
in the case. A statement
on the TCC website says, "The TCC will oppose
any arguments by the Klabona
Keepers that try and deny collective
Tahltan title and rights,
and claim those rights on
behalf of only a small sub-set
of Tahltan members."
