HYDRO ONE APPOINTS TORYS LLP SENIOR PARTNER TO LEAD LEGAL TEAM

Hydro One Ltd. has appointed James Scarlett as executive vice-president and chief legal officer, effective Sept. 1, 2016.

Mr. Scarlett is currently a senior partner at Torys LLP. He joined Torys in March, 2000, and since that time, he has held a number of leadership roles at the firm, including head of Torys's capital markets group, mining group and international business development strategy. Mr. Scarlett was also a member of the firm's executive committee from 2009 to 2015. Prior to joining Torys, Mr. Scarlett was a partner at another major Canadian law firm, where he began as an articling student in 1981 and became an associate in 1983 and a partner in 1988. While at the firm, He held leadership roles as head of its corporate group, securities group and as a member of its board. Mr. Scarlett was also seconded to the Ontario Securities Commission in 1987 and was appointed as the first director of capital markets in 1988, a position he held until his return to private law practice in 1990.

Mr. Scarlett earned his law degree (JD) from the University of Toronto in 1981 and his bachelor of commerce degree from the University of McGill in 1975. He is highly recognized in his profession having been consistently and repeatedly named to several prestigious lists and rankings including:
