Enpar to provide commercial ESD unit to Chemsbro

2014-10-02 10:21 ET - News Release

Dr. Gene Shelp reports

ESD CAPDI WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM TO BE DEPLOYED IN KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA

Enpar Technologies Inc. is transferring a commercial ESD (electrostatic dionization) unit to Chemsbro of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

This initial ESD plant, valued at several hundred thousand dollars, will demonstrate the efficacy of this novel technology to achieve high ion removal efficiencies combined with high water recoveries. The focus of this unit will be the production of high-purity water for the energy and petrochemical industries. Developed as a scalable system, increased water volume can be readily accommodated with additional ESD modules.

A technical representative of Chemsbro visited Enpar's facility in Guelph on Sept. 23 to complete an initial commissioning evaluation of the unit. The unit passed the performance criteria and is being prepared for shipping.

Chemsbro, a member of Saudi Brothers Commercial Group, provides integrated chemical solutions and specialty chemicals for water and waste water treatment plants, and is a leader in specialty niche industrial sectors.

Nizar Kammourie, managing director and co-founder of Chemsbro, indicated that $60-billion (U.S.) is the anticipated investment in the water and waste water sector over the next six years in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and highlighted the importance of water reuse for many industries. This massive investment is driven by industrial and economic development, population growth, and the need to treat waste streams. Water reuse currently accounts for 1 per cent of the water supply in the KSA. The National Water Company plans to increase the reuse of water to 30 per cent by the year 2020. These key factors have increased the interest in novel treatment technologies in Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Gene Shelp, president and chief executive officer of Enpar, commented: "Enpar is extremely pleased that the commercial unit has passed all performance criteria set out by Chemsbro for this initial ESD installation. Once operational, we anticipate that this commercial installation will launch Enpar's state-of-the-art electrochemical water treatment systems in the Middle East. Given Chemsbro's knowledge of the specialty industrial and municipal water market sectors in a rapidly growing market, Chemsbro and Enpar are actively developing a joint marketing strategy for the ESD technology in the region."
