NATIONAL ENERGY BOARD RESPONDING TO ENBRIDGE PUMPING STATION RELEASE IN THE CITY OF REGINA

The National Energy Board is responding to a release of crude oil at Enbridge Inc.'s Enbridge Pipelines Inc.'s Regina terminal pump station. The pump station is located in the industrial section of Regina. The company estimates that approximately 1,350 barrels of crude oil were released.

The pump station and pipeline were immediately shut in, and cleanup operations are under way. The release is contained within the company's Regina terminal retention pond. There were no injuries, no fire, no nearby residences and no threat to public safety.

NEB staff have been deployed to monitor and assess the company's response.

In an emergency, the board works with federal, provincial and territorial partners to co-ordinate the regulatory response. NEB's priority in any emergency is to make sure that people are safe, and the environment is protected.

The National Energy Board holds regulated companies fully responsible and accountable for responding in a manner that protects the public, property and the environment. This includes cleanup and site remediation. The board's long-term goal with any incident is the full restoration and revegetation of the site, including any potential effects on subsurface groundwater. It does not relax its expectations of a company, or its response, regardless of the size of the incident.

The National Energy Board is an independent federal regulator of several parts of Canada's energy industry with the safety of Canadians and protection of the environment as its priority.
