The Successful Investor, in its February, 2016, issue, refreshes its buy of Canadian Utilities Ltd., recently $31. The Investor said buy 23 times from January, 1999, to September, 2015, at prices ranging from $35 to $73 (the stock split 2 for 1 on Aug. 25, 2005, and again on June 17, 2013). Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the 23 buys, the $23,000 position would now be worth $34,999. The stock has slipped in the past year, largely because of concerns over Alberta's slowing economy and new carbon taxes. Canadian Utilities' 11 plants in Alberta generate power by burning natural gas, which produces fewer emissions than coal. Meanwhile, the company has raised its quarterly dividend to 32.5 cents a share from 29.5 cents a share. The new annual dividend rate of $1.30 a share is now a 4.2-per-cent yield. The stock continues to be a buy.
