The Globe and Mail reports in its Saturday, Oct. 18, edition that Capital Power ($24.90) issued an earnings warning for the third quarter. The Globe's Darcy Keith and Jody White write that Capital Power says due to lower plant availability at its Sundance PPA units and other factors, overall electricity generation production was below expectations. Capital Power says quarterly net income and funds from operations will be below previous guidance. The company says its funds from operations for the year is now expected at the low end of the forecast range of $360-million to $400-million. The company also says its net income for the third quarter of 2014 was negatively impacted by a non-cash writedown of deferred tax assets of $73-million. Desjardins Securities analyst Jeremy Rosenfield said Capital Power shares were "inexpensive" in The Globe on Oct. 29, 2013. The shares could then be had for $21.66. RBC Dominion Securities analyst Robert Kwan and CIBC World Markets analyst Paul Lechem rated Capital Power "sector perform" and "outperform" in The Globe on July 30, 2014. Mr. Kwan and Mr. Lechem targeted the shares at $27 and $29. The shares could then be had for $27.11.
