The Financial Post reports in its Thursday, Oct. 30, edition that Canadian Pacific Railway and Canadian National Railway say they intend to comply fully with new safety measures announced in Ottawa on Wednesday. The Post's Gordon Isfeld and Kristine Owram write that CN spokesman Mark Hallam says, "CN has a robust train securement system already in place and will implement the changes as directed by Transport Canada." CP spokesman Marty Cej says: "CP will apply all necessary procedures and processes to comply with the new directive as well as other measures announced" on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Transport Minister Lisa Raitt says Transport Canada has "adequate resources in their budgets right now to carry out everything that we've ever announced." Ms. Raitt says: "Building a safety culture is a shared responsibility. Transport Canada has brought in rules and regulations, orders and directives. Railways and their employees must not only follow and meet these standards, but they have to exceed them as well too in our country."
