Inv Reporter says keep holding Corus

2015-05-04 21:49 ET - In the News

The Investment Reporter, in its April 24, 2015, issue, says hold Corus Entertainment Inc., recently $17.84. The Reporter said buy eight times from Jan. 4, 2008, to Nov. 7, 2014, at prices ranging from $19.20 to $48.53 (the stock split 2 for 1 on Jan. 30, 2008). Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the eight buys, the $8,000 position would now be worth $6,261. In the six months to Feb. 28, 2015, the media and broadcasting company lost $34.9-million, or 41 cents a share, far worse than net income of $157-million, or $1.85 a share a year earlier. In the first half of fiscal 2015, Corus took radio broadcast licence and goodwill impairment charges, as well as acquisition and restructuring charges. The company saw lower advertising revenue in the first half of fiscal 2015; this will likely be a long-standing problem as younger generations shift from traditional TV to newer media such as the Internet. In addition, the CRTC's new pick-and-pay regulations could hurt Corus as viewers are expected to abandon channels that generate little interest. Corus pays a $1.14 annual dividend, which is a high yield of 6.4 per cent. The stock remains a hold for long-term price gains and attractive dividends.
