Inv Reporter refreshes Corus Entertainment buy

2014-11-28 21:04 ET - In the News

The Investment Reporter, in its Nov. 21, 2014, issue, refreshes its buy of Corus Entertainment Inc., recently $20.91. The Reporter said buy eight times from Jan. 4, 2008, to Nov. 7, 2014, at prices ranging from $19.20 to $48.53 (the stock split 2 for 1 on Jan. 30, 2008). Assuming an investment of $1,000 for each of the eight buys, the $8,000 position would now be worth $7,339. Corus earned less than expected in the year to Aug. 31, 2014, and has lowered its expectations for fiscal 2015. Nonetheless, the stock remains a buy for several reasons. First, its earnings are expected to increase this year and next year, which should help its share price recover. Second, the shares are cheap. Corus trades at an attractively low price-to-earnings ratio of 11.1. The price-to-cash-flow ratio is 4.2, which is within the Reporter's comfort zone of five or less. Thirdly, the media giant pays a dividend of $1.09 a share, which is now a 5.2-per-cent yield. Remember that the yield will improve as the company continues to raise its dividend. The stock remains a buy for high and rising dividends while you wait for a share price recovery.
